Distribution of 40,000 Pine Saplings Begins in Afghanistan
The General Directorate of Environmental Affairs has begun distributing 40,000 pine saplings to the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Paktika, Khost, Logar, Kapisa and Panjshir, at the suggestion of the National Environmental Protection Agency.
The agency stated that the saplings were grown in the Qasr-e Paghman nurseries and have a total value of six million afghanis.
Maulvi Mutie-ul-Haq Khalis, head of the National Environmental Protection Agency, said at the ceremony that tree planting is the easiest way to combat the effects of climate change.
Khalis added that the saplings will be planted in locations where local residents commit to their maintenance and nurturing, with periodic monitoring by agency officials.
He emphasized that the prosperity and greening of the country is a shared responsibility of the government and the people, and that firm steps must be taken in this regard.
