Afghanistan's Agriculture Ministry Allocates 72,000 Jeribs of Land to Investors
KABUL — Afghanistan's Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has allocated about 72,000 jeribs of land to investors as part of its commitment to expanding opportunities in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
Shir Mohammad Khattami, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that technical cooperation, land distribution and leasing arrangements have been made to support domestic and foreign investors. He highlighted vast untapped capacities in agriculture, livestock, horticulture, irrigation, product packaging, storage, transportation and cold storage that are open to private sector investment.
Representatives of the Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock expressed interest in further domestic investment, saying suitable conditions for land allocation and technical cooperation would encourage greater participation.
Some private investors, however, criticized the ministry for insufficient efforts on product standardization and achieving self-sufficiency in these sectors.
Economic experts stated that proper development of agriculture and livestock could unlock billion-dollar investment opportunities. They urged the creation of incentive packages to realize this potential.
