UN-Habitat Reconstructs Health Center in Eastern Kabul with Japanese Support

KABUL -- The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) stated that all people deserve access to quality health services, which begins with safe and equipped medical centers.
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, UN-Habitat reported the reconstruction and equipping of a health center in eastern Kabul. Residents in the area can now access safe and quality health services there.
"With the support of JICA and the Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan, this center will serve as a lifeline for many in eastern Kabul," UN-Habitat said.
Afghanistan's health system remains fragile, with many medical centers facing shortages of equipment, medicine and specialist staff. This limits access to basic health services, especially for women and mothers with children.
Women, particularly mothers, often cannot seek preventive or treatment care due to challenges including lack of security, poverty, long distances to health centers and shortages of specialist doctors.
