Trump: 10 Days to Reach Agreement with Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump warned at the first Gaza Peace Council meeting in Washington that the world will learn within about 10 days whether a "meaningful" agreement with Iran will be reached, or else "bad things" will happen.
Trump stated that negotiations with Iran have progressed "very well," though historically reaching an agreement with Tehran has been difficult. He added that work remains to secure a deal on Iran's nuclear program and that the United States may need to "take one step forward."
Trump praised the efforts of Steve Witkoff, his special envoy for Middle East affairs, and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, noting they have held constructive meetings to advance the talks.
The remarks come amid increased U.S. military presence in the Middle East in recent weeks and reports of progress in negotiations between representatives of the two countries.
Meanwhile, several members of the U.S. Congress from both parties have warned against any military action without congressional authorization. They cited the War Powers Resolution, emphasizing that any armed conflict requires congressional review and approval.
Trump stressed his hope for a diplomatic solution but said other options remain on the table if no agreement is reached.
