The Moldovan government has approved an updated list of banned airlines, prohibiting a number of carriers, including those from Afghanistan, from operating flights to the country.

According to a report by the Nokta website, the document took effect on Friday, 1 Hoot, following its publication in the official government gazette.

The list includes Afghan airlines alongside 22 Russian carriers, such as Aeroflot, Pobeda and Ikar. Restrictions also apply to nearly 200 airlines from more than 20 countries, including Iran, Venezuela, Kyrgyzstan, Libya and Sudan.

Moldovan officials stated that the bans align with the European Union's common list of airlines failing to meet international aviation safety standards.

The measure will remain in place until Moldova joins the EU, with the government committing to harmonize its domestic laws with European civil aviation safety standards.
