Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations sent a letter dated Friday, February 20, to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, stating that any attack by the United States would prompt a "decisive response," including strikes on American bases, facilities and assets across the region.

The letter cited threats from U.S. President Donald Trump as indicating a "real danger of aggression" against Tehran.

The Washington Post reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that Trump is preparing for a large-scale military strike against Iran.

Trump has repeatedly stated that Iran must reach a meaningful agreement with Washington or face serious consequences.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran have risen in recent months over Iran's nuclear program and regional activities. Iran has long maintained that U.S. military bases in the Gulf and neighboring countries are within range of its missiles in the event of hostilities.

Previous confrontations have heightened concerns over a potential broader conflict in the Middle East.
