A French court has sentenced a 19-year-old Afghan asylum seeker to 30 months in prison after convicting him of sexually abusing goats and lambs at an educational farm near Marseille.
The court in Aix-en-Provence also ordered that the man be deported from France once he finishes serving his prison term. In addition, the court required that he be registered as a sexual and violent offender.
The case came to light after a veterinarian examined the animals and found signs of injury. Surveillance cameras installed at the farm in Les Pennes-Mirabeau captured the suspect entering the animal pens on several occasions. Further evidence included DNA matches and information extracted from the man's mobile phone. Authorities arrested him close to a goat in a compromising position.
One of the animals died as a result of the injuries. The man, who entered France in November 2025, had applied for asylum on the grounds that his family members had been killed in Afghanistan. During the proceedings, he rejected the accusations against him.

Reliability assessment
Single source provides concrete, checkable details including specific court (Aix-en-Provence), commune (Les Pennes-Mirabeau), dates, evidence types, and outcome; reporting attributes the case to French media and court proceedings.
The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Khaama Press: "severe animal abuse", "circumstances investigators described as compromising", "debates over migration, public security and the treatment of asylum seekers remain politically sensitive" — these phrases introduce emotional framing around the crime and link it to broader politically charged debates on migration and asylum seekers.
