Fire and Smoke Reported at US Embassy in Kuwait After Iranian Strikes
International media outlets reported fire and thick black smoke rising from the US Embassy compound in Kuwait on Monday following Iranian missile and drone strikes on multiple sites across the country.
Associated Press cited images showing smoke and fire from the embassy, while videos circulated by news agencies depicted smoke billowing from inside the grounds amid wailing alarms. A witness near the compound told Khaama Press that smoke was visible over the neighborhood shortly after dawn. Sirens sounded in parts of the capital as emergency teams responded, and authorities urged residents to remain indoors.
Kuwait's Interior Ministry stated it intercepted an unspecified number of drones. The Health Ministry reported one death and 32 injuries from the broader wave of attacks, described as retaliation for recent US-Israeli operations inside Iran.
The US Embassy issued an urgent advisory warning American citizens of a continuing threat of missile and UAV attacks, instructing them to shelter in place and not approach the embassy. Diplomatic staff were ordered to remain inside the compound.
AFP reported additional Iranian attacks on Bahrain and Qatar. Iran's state-run Islamic Republic News Agency claimed a US F-15 fighter jet was shot down over Kuwait, but no confirmation came from American officials.
The strikes occurred amid escalating regional tensions, with Gulf states activating air defenses around strategic sites, airports, and diplomatic missions.
