The electricity department in Badakhshan province has completed and inaugurated a project to renovate and upgrade the power network in Baharak district, at a cost of 51,526,236 Afghanis from the provincial DABS budget.

Molavi Hakmatullah Akhundzada, head of Badakhshan electricity, stated that the project was implemented following the command of Amir al-Mu'minin, after electricity operations were transferred from the private Badakhshan Energy company to the Islamic Emirate. It includes upgrading the voltage system from 10 kilovolts to 20 kilovolts, replacing 3,000 analog meters with remotely controllable smart digital meters, installing and activating five small and large distribution transformers, laying 3.8 kilometers of 20-kilovolt network, installing 610 meter boxes, and 19.25 kilometers of 0.4-kilovolt network. Akhundzada said the initiative aims to improve economic conditions, provide public services, and ensure justice.

Engineer Faridun Fayez, deputy commercial manager of Badakhshan DABS, noted that the project targeted areas with residential connections, reducing electricity losses from 50 percent to 10 percent.

Residents of Baharak welcomed the project. Abdullah called for improved quality and regular electricity distribution across the district. Samiullah urged officials to undertake more projects for consistent power supply in various areas. Others specifically requested the implementation of a large-scale Baharak dam power project to meet Badakhshan's overall needs.

Badakhshan, despite abundant water resources, faces frequent power shortages during winter.
