35 Undocumented Afghan Migrants Detained in Peshawar
Police in Pakistan's Peshawar city detained 35 undocumented Afghan migrants during 41 search and inspection operations conducted over the past week.
According to Samaa TV, the operations aimed to identify undocumented foreign residents. Police also detained 233 additional suspects, and officials stated that legal proceedings have been initiated against those suspected of violating residency laws.
Meanwhile, nearly 100 Afghan migrants were released from detention centers in Karachi and returned to Afghanistan in recent days. Authorities indicated that deportation efforts have intensified, with hundreds of Afghan migrants being returned as part of a nationwide policy targeting undocumented foreigners.
Pakistan has conducted repeated campaigns to identify and deport such migrants, citing economic pressures and security concerns related to irregular migration.
Human rights groups have warned that many returning migrants face economic hardship and uncertainty after years of residence and employment in Pakistan. Observers noted that ongoing deportations could significantly affect migrant communities and raise concerns about humanitarian conditions for families returning under pressure.
