KABUL — The World Food Programme announced that in 2025 it served meals to 880,000 children across Afghanistan through its school nutrition program.

The organization stated on its X account on Monday that the meals, fortified with vitamins and minerals, support children's learning by helping them focus better. It described the provision of meals as part of efforts to bolster education and encourage families to send children to school.

The World Food Programme has previously emphasized that school meals are lifesaving and vital for many children in Afghanistan.

Separately, UNICEF reported that 942,000 children in the country suffer from severe acute malnutrition, with around 700,000 others at risk of moderate malnutrition. The United Nations added that needs have sharply increased, with more than 17 million people facing food insecurity.
