Taliban publicly flog four people in Kapisa and Zabul

The Supreme Court of the Taliban announced that four individuals were publicly flogged in Kapisa and Zabul provinces. The Taliban stated the men were convicted of theft and each received between 20 and 35 lashes, along with two-year suspended prison sentences.
The Supreme Court issued separate statements on Sunday and Monday detailing the implementation of the sentences in front of the public.
The Taliban administration flogged approximately 90 people across various provinces in the past week alone. Over the past four years, the group has reported public corporal punishments almost daily, describing them as the implementation of Islamic Sharia.
The United Nations and other human rights organizations have repeatedly urged the Taliban to halt corporal punishments, but the group has disregarded these calls. International and human rights bodies view public floggings as a violation of human dignity. Rights groups state that the Taliban's judicial system lacks standards and deprives defendants of basic fair trial procedures, such as access to defense lawyers.
