US Vice President Vance: Azerbaijan Played Key Role in War Against Terrorism in Afghanistan

U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that Azerbaijan has been one of America's important partners in the war against terrorism, with Azerbaijani forces among the last to leave Afghanistan.
Vance made the comments Tuesday during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku. He noted that the Washington-Baku partnership has not received adequate attention for a long time but holds significant importance for the United States, particularly in security cooperation.
"Many American citizens may not be aware of Azerbaijan's role in Afghanistan," Vance said. He highlighted that Azerbaijani troops not only were among the final forces to withdraw but also fought alongside U.S. Marines during their mission. Vance described the Azerbaijani forces as "tough and fearless," adding that they are recognized globally as reliable in international missions.
The vice president said his visit to Baku aimed to express appreciation for this cooperation while signaling a new chapter in bilateral relations, with plans to expand ties.
Vance emphasized the longstanding but underappreciated alliance, underscoring its value in counterterrorism efforts centered on Afghanistan.
