UNICEF Trains More Than 54,000 Teachers in Afghanistan in 2025 to Improve Education Quality
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) states that in 2025 it invested in training more than 54,000 teachers in Afghanistan to enhance education quality.
UNICEF provided practical training to these teachers aimed at improving the learning process in schools and making classrooms safer and more engaging.
The organization delivered this support in stages, with structured follow-up to ensure that new teaching methods are applied in classrooms and sustained over time.
UNICEF emphasized that strengthening teachers' capacities plays a key role in improving education quality, noting that strong classrooms are built with capable teachers.
These efforts come amid restrictions on women's rights and activities imposed after the Taliban's return to power in August 2021. Women have faced bans on employment in many government offices, severe limitations in non-governmental organizations and UN-related offices, and prohibitions on girls' education above the sixth grade. Additional measures have included closing women's beauty salons and restricting women's presence in various work environments, prompting widespread domestic and international reactions.
