Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, head of the General Directorate of National Disaster Preparedness, met with Stephen Rodriguez, head of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Afghanistan.

Turabi described the implementation of fundamental and emergency projects as key priorities for his administration. He called for increased cooperation from the United Nations in this sector, noting that Afghanistan has been affected by natural disasters due to climate change impacts and sudden rains, necessitating various projects.

According to Turabi, work has begun on cleaning flood channels, constructing retaining walls and gabions across all provinces to reduce flood risks.

Rodriguez stated his intention to expand cooperation in disaster management in Afghanistan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized greater focus on fundamental projects and reducing disaster risks.
