Sheberghan, Afghanistan — Maulvi Ghulam Nabi Sameem, head of borders, tribes and ethnicities in Jawzjan province, said 62 cases of ethnic and family enmities and disputes were resolved through mediation and tribal jirgas during the solar year 1404.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Sameem stated that these cases, which included murders and enmities lasting up to five decades, were peacefully settled by religious scholars and tribal elders.

He added that several ethnic meetings under the name "Islamic Brotherhood" were held this year in Sheberghan city and the province's districts. These gatherings, attended by high-ranking officials of the Islamic Emirate, religious scholars and tribal elders, aimed to address people's problems and explain directives from the Leader of the Islamic Emirate on preventing harmful social practices and human trafficking.

Sheikh Khairullah Haqqani, head of the Ulema Council in Jawzjan, said cooperation with the tribes and ethnicities department has strengthened unity among ethnic groups in the province.

"Over these twenty years, we have witnessed more issues that have been resolved and turned into peace," Haqqani said. "There is strength in unity; when members of one ethnicity and one country unite, they can better manage problems and have common goals."
