UK Deploys Rapid Sentry Air Defense System to Kuwait After Iranian Drone Attack

Britain is deploying its Rapid Sentry air defense system to Kuwait to protect British and Kuwaiti interests in the Gulf following an overnight Iranian drone attack on a Kuwaiti oil facility.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed the deployment during a phone call Friday with Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, according to a spokesperson for Starmer's office. Starmer condemned the drone attack on the Kuwaiti oil refinery and addressed disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The leaders welcomed a meeting chaired by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to work toward reopening the strait. The deployment comes amid heightened tensions in the region after the attack on the oil facility.

The Rapid Sentry system is designed to enhance air defense capabilities in response to emerging threats, safeguarding key interests for both nations.
