Three Killed, Six Injured in Nangarhar Floods as National Death Toll Reaches Around 50

Heavy rains and flooding in Nangarhar province on the night of April 2-3 killed three people and injured six others, according to local officials from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Taliban spokesperson Syed Taib Hamad, speaking for the Nangarhar Security Command, reported that two children died and five others were injured when the roof of a house collapsed in Jalalabad's eighth security district. A separate incident at a poultry farm in Haska Mina district -- described by some reports as the Surkamar area of Deh Bala district -- claimed one life, injured another person and killed approximately 1,500 chickens.

Agricultural damage was also reported, with crops destroyed on 534 jeribs of land across districts including Bati Kot, Momandara and Chaparhar. Additionally, 400 jeribs of land in Pachiragam district were at risk from a breached canal, and ten check dams were damaged in Hissarak district.

The incidents occurred amid widespread flooding across Afghanistan over the past week. Taliban authorities stated that rains and floods have killed around 50 people nationwide, with at least 51 deaths and 89 injuries reported in 18 provinces including Kabul and Kandahar. The disasters destroyed 384 houses completely, partially damaged 700 others and affected over 8,000 jeribs of farmland, impacting more than 8,600 families.

Nangarhar's deputy governor chaired a meeting with officials to coordinate emergency aid for affected families, according to reports.
