TASS Reports US Patrol Aircraft Flight Near Iran's Borders
Russia's state news agency TASS reported on Monday that a US anti-submarine patrol aircraft flew over international waters in the Persian Gulf near Iran's airspace borders.
According to TASS, a Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft was observed over Gulf waters in recent hours, flying for several hours at an altitude of about 5,500 meters. An unnamed source in flight control circles told TASS the plane flew outside civilian transit routes in the region. The aircraft took off from a military base in Bahrain, TASS said, adding it had previously flown in the same area on February 19, extending to the Sea of Oman.
The report noted that in recent weeks, US Air Force Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton reconnaissance drone flights have also been recorded over the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman. The unnamed source said the drone can conduct continuous reconnaissance for 10 to 15 hours, monitoring vast land and sea areas.
Neither US nor Iranian officials have commented on the report. The Amu TV report added that the US has threatened military action against Iran if no immediate agreement is reached on its nuclear program.
