The Taliban Supreme Court announced that 11 people, including two women, were punished in Takhar, Zabul and Badakhshan provinces. The individuals were sentenced to 25 to 39 lashes and one to five years in prison.

Charges against them included selling and smuggling narcotics and alcoholic beverages, engaging in sexual relations outside marriage, theft and running away from home. In separate statements on Wednesday, 20 Hoot, the court detailed that six people, including one woman, were punished in Yangi Qala district of Takhar province; three people in Ashkasham district of Badakhshan province; and one man and one woman in Zabul province, all on charges of running away from home.

Taliban corporal punishments typically involve 39 lashes and are carried out publicly by Taliban officials, often alongside prison terms.

Afghanistan International findings indicate that since 2024, the Taliban have publicly flogged more than 2,000 people, including 291 women, on various charges. However, according to these findings, the Taliban have refrained from carrying out corporal and public punishments against their own affiliates.
