Switzerland Rejects Two US Military Aircraft Overflight Requests Linked to Iran War

Switzerland has rejected two requests for US military aircraft to overfly its territory in connection with the Iran war, while approving three others, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry, quoted by Reuters, specified that the approved requests involved two transport aircraft and one maintenance aircraft. It emphasized that under Swiss neutrality law, overflights by military aircraft belonging to warring parties are prohibited. Only flights for humanitarian, medical or non-conflict-related purposes are permitted.

The Foreign Ministry added that future requests will be denied if they exceed normal traffic levels or if their purpose is unclear.

The decisions underscore Switzerland's longstanding policy of neutrality, which restricts the transit of military assets involved in active conflicts.
