Seven Killed, 12 Injured in Traffic Accident in Badakhshan's Fayzabad
FAYZABAD, Afghanistan -- A traffic accident in the Sayd Bayi area of Fayzabad city, the capital of Badakhshan province, on Tuesday, 25 Hamal, killed seven people and injured 12 others after a Toyota vehicle veered off the road.
The injured were transported to the Badakhshan provincial hospital with assistance from local residents. Some of those wounded remain in critical condition.
Local Taliban officials had not issued any comments on the incident at the time of reporting.
Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesman for the Taliban police in Badakhshan, provided statistics for the province over the past year, stating there were 122 traffic incidents resulting in 136 deaths and 175 injuries.
Residents have voiced criticism over poor road maintenance and the absence of traffic signs, which they say contribute to frequent accidents in the area.
