Salang Main Highway Temporarily Closed Due to Heavy Snowfall and Storm
KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- The Salang main highway has been temporarily closed due to heavy snowfall, storms and poor visibility, the Ministry of Public Works announced.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, stated the closure was implemented to prevent traffic accidents. He added that the highway would reopen once weather conditions improve.
The announcement follows weather warnings issued the previous day by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. Those alerts cautioned of heavy rains, landslides and floods across all provinces except two, including the Salang area.
The Salang main highway is a critical route connecting northern and central Afghanistan, and such closures are common during severe winter weather to ensure traveler safety. Officials emphasized the temporary nature of the measure amid ongoing monitoring of conditions.
