Russian, Uzbek Officials to Discuss Afghanistan Security at Termez Conference
Termez, Uzbekistan -- Russian and Uzbek officials will gather in Termez on 10-11 Hamal for a conference focusing on security developments in Afghanistan, regional cooperation and related issues.
The event is hosted by Russia's Valdai Discussion Club and Uzbekistan's Institute for Strategic Studies. Participants include Mikhail Galuzin, Russia's deputy foreign minister, Shuhrat Yigitalev, advisor to Uzbekistan's foreign ministry, and ambassadors from both countries.
According to TASS news agency, discussions will cover Afghanistan's security situation, strategic cooperation, the North-South transit corridor, migration, climate change, water resources and the digital economy.
Organizers highlighted Termez's proximity to the Afghan border and raised concerns about potential terrorism spillover from neighboring regions into Central Asia and Eurasia.
The conference underscores efforts to address regional stability challenges, with a particular emphasis on developments around Afghanistan.
