Russian Envoy Claims UK Interference Derailed 2022 Ukraine Peace Talks

Russia's special presidential envoy for Ukraine peace negotiations, Kirill Dmitriev, stated that peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in April 2022 were achievable but were disrupted by British intervention.
Dmitriev said the Czech prime minister had confirmed the feasibility of the negotiations at that time. He added on social media that Britain intervened due to its "interest in the conflict," leading to the failure of the talks.
Dmitriev further noted that the head of the Ukrainian delegation had also confirmed the collapse of the 2022 discussions, attributing it to external interference.
These remarks come amid ongoing disagreements over resolving the Ukraine crisis and the role of third-party nations in peace efforts. Efforts to negotiate peace in Ukraine have repeatedly stalled due to disagreements over territorial and security issues.
Western nations, including the UK, have provided political and military support to Ukraine, which Moscow views as complicating direct negotiations between the parties.
Dmitriev's comments underscore continuing tensions over external actors' involvement in the Ukraine conflict and the challenges in achieving a negotiated settlement.
