Reuters: Iran Has Mined Strait of Hormuz

Reuters, citing two sources who declined to be named, reported that Iran has deployed about 12 mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

The strait is a critical global maritime route linking the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean, through which roughly 20% of the world's crude oil passes. Any disruption could impact international energy markets.

The two sources said the mining would complicate efforts to reopen the narrow waterway, a key path for oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Exports of oil and LNG along Iran's coast through the strait have halted due to a war launched 12 days ago by the United States and Israel, leading to sharp rises in global energy prices, the report said.

Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters spokesman stated in a video message on Wednesday: "We will not allow even one liter of oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz for the benefit of America and its friends."

U.S. President Donald Trump previously demanded that Iran immediately remove any mines from the strait, warning of "unspecified military consequences" if it failed to comply.
