Pul-e Khumri Municipality Launches Campaign to Plant Thousands of Saplings
The Pul-e Khumri city municipality in Baghlan province has launched a campaign to plant thousands of saplings ahead of spring.
At the launch ceremony, Maulvi Naqibullah Mohammadi, mayor of Pul-e Khumri, stated that approximately 3,000 fruit-bearing and non-fruit-bearing saplings will be planted across the city's six districts. He specified that the saplings will primarily be planted along public roads, in recreational parks, and at other public sites.
Mohammadi emphasized that planting saplings is not solely the municipality's responsibility and urged citizens to actively participate in protecting, maintaining, and irrigating the trees.
Vali Mohammad Khordmand, representative of the Environmental Protection Department, addressed the ceremony, highlighting the importance of tree planting. He said it plays a vital role in preventing diseases, reducing air pollution, strengthening groundwater supplies, and mitigating flood risks.
Several Pul-e Khumri residents who spoke at the event welcomed the municipality's initiative and pledged their cooperation in safeguarding and caring for the planted saplings.
