Pakistani Media Reports Plan to Deport Nearly 20,000 Afghans Awaiting US Resettlement

Pakistani media outlet The Nation reported on February 9 that Pakistan's federal government intends to deport approximately 19,973 Afghan citizens who are awaiting resettlement in the United States.
According to the report, the government plans to issue directives to chief ministers of all provinces, as well as overall police commanders in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the chief commissioner of the Islamabad Capital Territory. Information on these individuals will be shared with relevant chief secretaries, police commanders, and the Islamabad commissioner to facilitate their deportation to Afghanistan.
The Pakistani government has not issued any official statement confirming these plans.
Thousands of Afghan citizens remain in Pakistan awaiting resettlement in the US. The report comes amid reports that US President Donald Trump has canceled resettlement requests for individuals with P1 and P2 case files.
