Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq Khan, met with UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, to discuss the human rights situation in the country.

Sadiq Khan said the discussions also covered security challenges and regional developments linked to Afghanistan. The meeting took place in Pakistan on Wednesday.

Bennett had recently visited Lahore to attend the Asma Jahangir Conference, where officials and rights groups addressed regional human rights concerns and migration issues.

At the conference, Bennett warned that forced deportation of vulnerable Afghan refugees could expose them to serious risks and urged Pakistan to respect international obligations. He called on Pakistani authorities to avoid forced returns of individuals facing threats, emphasizing that refugee protection remains a key international responsibility.

Pakistani authorities continue to detain large numbers of undocumented Afghan migrants as part of an ongoing nationwide crackdown on illegal residency.

The meeting underscores ongoing tensions between Pakistan’s migration management policies and international calls for stronger protection of Afghan refugees amid uncertain conditions in their home country.
