North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un Supervises Test Launch of Multiple Rocket Launchers
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised the test launch of 12 multiple rocket launchers with a 600 mm diameter, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
KCNA reported Saturday that the rockets struck an island target in the East Sea with 100% accuracy.
South Korea's military announced that North Korea fired more than 10 ballistic missiles toward the East Sea, with the projectiles flying approximately 350 km from an area near Pyongyang.
The test took place amid joint military exercises by the United States and South Korea, which Pyongyang has opposed. Kim Yo Jong, sister of Kim Jong Un, described the drills as a "provocative and aggressive war exercise" that endangers regional stability.
Pyongyang has stated it will conduct such tests regularly to verify its war deterrence capabilities. For more than two decades, North Korea has tested ballistic and cruise missiles as part of efforts to develop systems capable of delivering nuclear weapons.
