Iranian FM Describes Muscat Talks with US as 'Good Start' but Warns of Retaliation if Attacked

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi described indirect negotiations with the United States in Muscat, Oman, as "a good start" but emphasized that a long way remains to build trust.
Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that both sides presented their views and demands during the talks and agreed to consult their governments before deciding on the next round. Araghchi told Al Jazeera that despite the indirect nature of the discussions, an opportunity arose to shake hands with the American delegation.
Araghchi warned that if the US launched a military attack, Iran would target American military bases in the region. He clarified that Iran does not target neighboring countries, only US bases, adding there is "a big difference." He acknowledged that the possibility of war with the US "always exists," stressing Iran's preparedness while hoping for diplomacy.
Hours after the talks concluded, US President Donald Trump warned that Iran must reach an agreement with Washington or face "consequences." Trump had previously threatened military action and noted the deployment of US warships in the region.
