India Sends Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan for Flood and Earthquake Victims
India has delivered humanitarian aid to victims of recent floods and earthquakes in Afghanistan, becoming the first country to do so.
The aid shipment, including kitchen utensils, hygiene kits, plastic sheets, tarps and blankets, arrived at Kabul airport, according to Afghanistan International. Amu TV reported the aid was sent to address devastation from floods affecting more than 20 provinces.
The Taliban-led National Disaster Management Authority stated that natural disasters since the 6th of Hamal have killed 99 people and injured 154, affecting nearly 6,000 families, destroying more than 3,600 homes and ruining about 11,700 jeribs of farmland.
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region at a depth of 186 km around 8:42 p.m. Kabul time, killing 12 people and injuring 4, Taliban spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said. Afghanistan International reported that floods in the past 24 hours claimed 13 lives.
Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed solidarity, stating India stands with the people of Afghanistan. Afghanistan International noted that neither China nor Iran has sent aid.
