Four Killed, Two Injured in West Kabul House Collapse After 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake
Four people, including two men and two young girls, were killed and two others injured when a house collapsed in the Mahdia area of Dasht-e-Barchi in west Kabul following an overnight 5.9 magnitude earthquake, Khaama Press reported.
The outlet said the collapse resulted from ground subsidence over a septic pit and was part of a wider toll of at least eight deaths in Kabul from earthquake-related incidents.
Pajhwok Afghan News reported a separate incident in Kabul's Ghosfand Dara area, where eight family members died after a wall collapsed on a residential tent in the earthquake's aftermath.
Pajhwok also reported four deaths and three injuries in Jaghatu district of Maidan Wardak province, including an elderly man and two children killed in a roof collapse in Koza-i-Alana village, Barikab area, and one death from flash flooding in Qanda Qul village.
The U.S. Geological Survey registered the quake at 5.9 magnitude. It was felt across several provinces, highlighting Afghanistan's vulnerability to seismic events due to tectonic activity and poor housing construction.
