Herat Residents Complain of Prolonged Power Outages

HERAT, Afghanistan -- Residents of Herat province have complained of frequent power outages lasting more than two days and nights, local sources told Hasht-e Subh on Thursday.

The sources said the outages have also disrupted water supply in many homes, compounding residents' difficulties. The lack of electricity coincides with cold weather and the month of Ramadan, making it harder to meet daily needs reliant on power and water.

Ahead of the approaching Eid holiday, the power cuts have affected numerous businesses, including sewing workshops and online stores mostly managed by women, according to the sources.

Residents of some other unspecified provinces have similarly complained of repeated outages and the absence of any systematic solution or specific program to improve power supply, the sources added.
