Helmand Officials Meet UNDP, Contractors on Rebuilding Rain-Damaged Washir Check Dam

Helmand provincial officials met with a representative from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and officials from a dam construction contracting company to discuss rebuilding the Washir Check Dam, which was destroyed by recent rains.

Helmand Deputy Governor Maulvi Mohammad Nabi Hamas and Water and Energy Director Mullah Mohammad Yaqub Qaim inspected the site of the destruction and emphasized the need to reconstruct the check dam. The meeting took place in the Kandahar zone.

The Washir Check Dam had been built with funding from UNDP. The UNDP representative and the contracting company's engineer and responsible official promised that a survey for the reconstruction would begin the same day, with adherence to all required standards.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has urged the international community to entrust such reconstruction projects to them to ensure quality execution, according to a statement from the Helmand Provincial Directorate of Information and Culture.
