Heavy Rains, Flash Floods Kill 8, Injure 2 in Afghanistan's Badghis Province
KABUL — Heavy rains and flash floods in Badghis province have killed at least eight people and injured two others, Rahmuddin Rahimi, spokesman for the Badghis governor, said.
The casualties occurred amid widespread flooding triggered by intense rainfall in the province. Rahimi confirmed the death toll and injuries in a statement, highlighting the impact on local communities.
Transportation has been severely disrupted, with the Qala-i-Naw-Herat highway closed to traffic since Sunday night due to heavy rains and road damage, according to a statement from the Department of Land Transport. All routes connecting districts to the provincial center in Badghis have also been temporarily closed because of ongoing rainfall and flooding.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid travel along affected routes and to steer clear of high-risk areas prone to flooding. The closures are expected to remain in place until conditions improve and repairs can be carried out.
Badghis province, located in northwestern Afghanistan, has experienced similar weather-related incidents in the past, but officials emphasized the need for caution during this event.
