German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the United States has not presented a clear strategy to end its war with Iran.

Merz made the comments on Friday, March 13, emphasizing that Germany is not involved in the conflict and does not intend to participate in military operations. He said the primary focus should be on ending the operations and reducing tensions.

Merz added that there is currently no need for an international force to protect commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and the issue should be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy. He highlighted his discussions with the US and Israeli governments, stressing that ending the war and securing shipping lanes are top priorities.

The remarks came as French President Emmanuel Macron proposed an international mission to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that conditions for such an operation are not yet met.

Meanwhile, at least two oil tankers caught fire near the Iraqi coast, tensions persist in the Strait of Hormuz, and the US announced the resumption of shipping activities in the area.
