Former Pakistani Envoy Warns Taliban Support for Terrorists from Afghan Soil Poses Risks

KABUL: Asif Durrani, former Pakistani representative on Afghan affairs, warned that the Taliban's support for terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, alongside India's alleged use of proxy forces to destabilize Pakistan, represents a dangerous path with severe regional and global consequences.
Durrani made the remarks on Monday, February 9, 2026, confirming statements by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari. He stated that terrorism flourishes where it is tolerated and facilitated, emphasizing that "allowing terrorist groups to operate from Afghan soil and India's use of proxy forces for destabilizing Pakistan is a dangerous path with heavy regional and global consequences."
Durrani stressed that peace requires accountability, not denial.
The comments follow Zardari's remarks the previous day, in which he said the Taliban have placed Afghanistan in a worse situation than before September 11, 2001. Zardari warned that when terrorist groups outside a country's borders are supported or facilitated, "innocent people around the world will pay the cost."
