Floods Kill 17, Injure 26 in 13 Afghan Provinces Over Past 24 Hours
KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- The National Disaster Management Authority reported that at least 17 people were killed and 26 injured due to floods across 13 provinces in the past 24 hours, according to spokesperson Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Hamad.
Damage included 80 kilometers of roads and 582 hectares -- or jeribs -- of agricultural land. Omid Radio cited NDMA figures showing 37 residential homes completely destroyed, seven water networks affected and 503 families impacted, with emergency assistance to be provided. Pajhwok reported 147 houses damaged along with 31 water wells and irrigation networks.
Affected provinces included Daykundi, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Herat, Farah, Ghor, Badghis, Samangan, Jowzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab and Laghman. Pajhwok listed Parwan among them and said casualties also resulted from landslides and lightning strikes.
Pajhwok further reported that the Ministry of Public Works temporarily closed some roads in Sar-i-Pul, Balkh and Badghis.
