Local sources in Herat stated that numerous impoverished individuals, particularly female-headed households, cannot cover their living expenses during Ramadan due to economic difficulties.

On Wednesday, these sources told reporters that the start of Ramadan has led to the usual rise in prices of basic goods, alongside increased daily family expenditures, leaving many poor residents unable to purchase necessary food items.

The sources noted that in the past, humanitarian aid and support from some businessmen had alleviated these families' problems to some extent. However, they claimed that aid organizations and the Taliban currently do not provide sufficient attention to the needy.

The United Nations has repeatedly warned that Afghanistan faces a severe crisis of poverty and hunger, with millions unable to meet basic needs. UN agencies have stated that drought, reduced international aid, and the economic crisis have sharply increased the number of needy families across the country.
