Construction Begins on Perimeter Wall at Torghundi Port in Herat
Construction has begun on a new perimeter wall at Torghundi port in Herat province.
Mohammad Yusuf Saidi, spokesman for the Herat governor, said the previous walls at the port were built more than 40 years ago and had deteriorated, causing numerous problems. He stated that the new wall will cost more than 36 million 364 thousand Afghanis. An earlier mention in reporting cited more than 26 million Afghanis, but Saidi provided the updated figure.
Saidi described the project as important for enhancing security, improving regulation of port operations and upgrading infrastructure at the facility. Torghundi port, located in the Kashk Rabat Sangi district of Herat, serves as a key trade crossing linking Afghanistan to Turkmenistan by both railway and highway.
The port handles significant commercial traffic in western Afghanistan, and the new perimeter wall aims to address longstanding maintenance issues.
