Herat Residents Complain of Four-Day Power Outage Due to Damaged Poles in Band Baqarchar
HERAT, Afghanistan (Afghan Verified) -- Electricity imported from Turkmenistan has been cut off in Herat province for more than four days and nights, local sources said.
The outage stems from damaged electricity poles in the Band Baqarchar area, destroyed by snowfall and rain, according to sources who spoke to Hasht-e Subh on Saturday. They described the issue as recurring annually, with no precise or fundamental plan implemented by Taliban officials or Breshna company to address it.
Despite the repeated problem in previous years, residents said no sustainable actions have been taken to prevent the destruction of the poles.
Local sources criticized Breshna company for promptly collecting electricity payments from residents while neglecting to resolve the issue fundamentally.
The power outage has disrupted daily life, commercial activities and access to basic services in Herat, residents added.
