Commemoration Ceremony for Abdul Ali Mazari Held in Rome, Italy
A ceremony marking the anniversary of the killing of former jihad leader Abdul Ali Mazari took place in Rome, Italy. Titled "Mazari: From Division to Solidarity," the event was hosted by the Hazara Cultural Center in Rome and attended by dozens of Afghan diaspora members and Italian citizens.
Speakers at the ceremony discussed various aspects of Mazari's life and highlighted his ideals of social justice, equal rights for Afghan citizens, friendship among ethnic groups and establishing a legitimate government based on the people's votes.
Sadiqua Mashtaq, president of the Hazara Cultural Center and host of the event, said the center aims to hold such programs to remember figures like Mazari while fostering dialogue between the diaspora community and the host society. She added that commemorating such occasions helps counter the forgetting of Afghanistan's historical events.
An Italian researcher who conducted PhD research on the persecution of Hazaras in Afghanistan stated that "the genocide of the Hazaras has occurred slowly but steadily." She described discovering the depth of the disaster and oppression inflicted upon them through years of research.
Other participants emphasized tolerance, moderation, rejection of extremism and avoidance of enmity among ethnic groups.
