Afghanistan posts 182/6 against New Zealand in T20 World Cup match
Afghanistan's national cricket team scored 182 for 6 wickets against New Zealand in their T20 World Cup match on Sunday in Chennai, India.
Gulbadin Naib, batting at number three for the first time in two years, top-scored with 63 runs off 35 balls. His innings shifted the momentum on the Chepauk pitch, which offered bounce and assistance to slower bowlers.
Naib was supported by cameos from Rasooli and Omarzai, helping Afghanistan surpass 160 runs. The total marks Afghanistan's highest score against New Zealand in men's T20 World Cup history, eclipsing India's previous record of 180 for 9 set in 2007.
New Zealand's bowlers included Henry, Duffy, Ferguson and Neesham, each bowling an over. Captain Mitchell Santner gave the 18th over to Rachin Ravindra, who dismissed Naib but conceded 14 runs, including a six from Omarzai over long-off.
The match was ongoing, with both teams competing in the early stages of the tournament.
