Afghan Woman Gives Birth to Quintuplets at Emergency Hospital
Emergency Hospital announced on its X account Monday, the 17th of Hamal, that a woman gave birth to quintuplets.
The five newborns arrived approximately 30 weeks prematurely and are in satisfactory condition along with their mother, who remains under special care.
The hospital highlighted this rare event amid ongoing challenges for multiple births in Afghanistan due to limited advanced medical facilities.
For context, Emergency Hospital referenced a previous quintuplet birth last year. A mother from Feizabad district in Jowzjan province delivered three boys and two girls at Mazar-e-Sharif Hospital during the month of Aqrab. One fetus died before birth, but the remaining four babies were healthy.
Such premature multiple births require intensive medical attention, and the current case demonstrates successful management at the facility despite the early gestation period.
