Zahedan Sunni Leader Calls for Halting Executions, Restoring Internet Amid Iran's Crises
ZAHE DAN, Iran (Afghan Verified) — Abdulhamid Ismailzehi, the Sunni Friday prayer leader in Zahedan, urged authorities to halt executions and attend to the people's internal demands during his weekly sermon on Friday.
Ismailzehi called for ending conflicts through agreement, restoring access to the global internet and prioritizing public welfare. He described Iran's current situation as "critical" amid ongoing attacks by the United States and Israel on its military and nuclear facilities, which have continued for over a month.
The cleric criticized the long-term internet cutoff across Iran and demanded its immediate reconnection to the world wide web. He emphasized managing crises through dialogue and reducing foreign tensions to focus on domestic issues.
Ismailzehi, a known critic of the Islamic Republic's policies, also condemned Israel's proposed death penalty policies toward Palestinian attackers. He called for dialogue to resolve regional issues and ensure fair rights for Palestinians.
His remarks highlight growing domestic pressures in Iran as external military pressures persist.
