WSJ: Second Round of US-Iran Talks Expected Within Days After Islamabad Failure
A second round of US-Iran talks could be held within days despite the collapse of the first round hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing regional officials.
The initial negotiations, which lasted 21 hours, ended without agreement on Saturday. Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated on X that the United States failed to gain the trust of the Iranian delegation. US President Donald Trump said the talks failed because Iran is not willing to abandon its nuclear program.
Regional countries are pressing for diplomacy to bring the US and Iran back to the negotiating table. They are also consulting with the US to secure an extension of a fragile two-week ceasefire announced late Tuesday.
Neither Iran nor the US has officially commented on the WSJ report.
