Vietnam National Assembly Unanimously Elects To Lam as President, Le Minh Hung as Prime Minister

Vietnam’s National Assembly unanimously elected Communist Party General Secretary To Lam as the country’s president for a five-year term.

All 495 lawmakers present voted in favor of To Lam’s nomination during the parliamentary session. To Lam, a former public security chief who secured a second term as party general secretary earlier this year, pledged loyalty to the country and the constitution following his election.

In the same session, the National Assembly unanimously elected former central bank governor Le Minh Hung as Vietnam’s new prime minister.

The elections complete a major leadership reshuffle in the one-party state, where the Communist Party holds ultimate authority.
