Uzbek Authorities Seize 191 Kilograms of Hashish Worth Over $5 Million at Afghan Border

Uzbek customs authorities have seized 191 kilograms of hashish valued at more than $5 million at the Ayritom border crossing in the Serkhondarya region.

The narcotics were hidden inside the double-layered structures of 210 steam boilers carried in a truck traveling from Afghanistan to Kazakhstan. The vehicle was transporting a total of 750 steam boilers weighing 4.1 tons, according to Uzbek authorities.

Customs officials at the Ayritom post discovered the hashish during an inspection. Investigations into the smuggling attempt are ongoing.

The seizure comes amid claims by the Taliban of increased efforts to combat drug smuggling from Afghanistan. However, international reports indicate that smuggling networks continue to operate actively in the country.
