UNGA President Baerbock States Human Rights and Women's Rights Inseparable, References Afghan Women
Annalena Baerbock, president of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, stated on the sidelines of the women's situation commission that human rights and women's rights are inseparable, referring to Afghan women.
Baerbock emphasized that addressing violations of women's rights in Afghanistan does not mean ignoring the suffering of women elsewhere. "If you talk about violations of women's rights in Afghanistan at an event, it does not mean that you are not paying attention to violations of women's rights or the suffering of women and girls in Gaza," she said. "If we start comparing who suffers more, between ethnic groups and especially among women, it only benefits those who try to divide and weaken this great solidarity."
Women's rights activists urged the Islamic Emirate to ease restrictions on women's work and education, highlighting their benefits to society. Tafsir Siyahposh, a women's rights activist, said restrictions are increasing day by day, particularly on the right to work and girls' education, and called on the Islamic Emirate to pay attention.
Lida Hamid, a student, stated that a woman who works outside gains more experience, leading to financial independence and economic benefits for her family.
The Islamic Emirate has not commented recently on the matter but has previously insisted on providing women's rights within the framework of Islamic Sharia.
